Community impact

Community is one of the core pillars of Women in Business, and we believe that extends beyond our members. Every year, our executive team and members work together to give back to the Edmonton community by volunteering with local organizations.

As a club, we aim to complete a total of 1,160 volunteer hours each year. Throughout the school year, we organize volunteer shifts that members can attend together, making it a fun way to meet other members while giving back to the community.

  • Basically Babies

    Basically Babies is a registered charity that is committed to supporting families in extreme need with newborns through the provision of a baby layette.  They offer the gift of a complete first year’s wardrobe for these infants in the form of a beautiful color-coordinated basket filled with clothing, outerwear, blankets, toys, storybooks, sleepers, undershirts, footwear, and other baby essentials.  Basically Babies is intentional with every layette, ensuring it's not only valuable for the family receiving it, but a source of dignity and hope as well.

    Women in Business partners with Basically Babies every year, and it's become one of our members' favourite volunteer opportunities. Shifts are hands-on and team-based in a welcoming environment, giving members a firsthand look at the care that goes into every layette before it reaches a family. The people behind Basically Babies pour real care into their work, and their impact across Albertan families is one members are proud to be part of.

  • Edmonton’s Food Bank

    Edmonton's Food Bank is dedicated to alleviating hunger in Edmonton through food collection, distribution, and community programming. Each month, they provide food hampers to over 43,000 people, along with more than 500,000 meals and snacks to over 380+ partner agencies, including soup kitchens, shelters, schools, and other community groups across the city. Volunteers sort food donations and assemble grocery hampers, helping get food directly to families and individuals who need it most.

    Edmonton's Food Bank has been a key partner of Women in Business, and countless members have dedicated their time to its mission over the years. Members look forward to these easy-to-attend, hands-on volunteer shifts, and there's something special about knowing your time is going straight back into the Edmonton community you're part of.
